Cellular Communications

The design of cellular communications products is one of Plextek's core capabilities. Our experience in cellular product design includes both cellular handset design and PC card development. In addition to cellular phones and PC cards we have also been involved in the design of other innovative electronic products with cellular connectivity, such as gaming consoles. The photograph to the right shows a multi-media cellular handset. It incorporates a tri-band phone, still and video capture and transmission, video and internet gaming, web-browsing, Email access, conference calling and Bluetooth connectivity. Our work with this design also encompassed the design and supply of Automatic Test Equipment (ATE) and supporting the introduction to volume manufacture.

Our capability in radio communications product development enables us to support our clients during all stages of the design and market introduction of cellular products. Our detailed understanding of RF design , DSP and software coupled with our strong focus on ensuring that design for manufacture is considered from the outset has enabled us to complete a string of successful development programs. The cellular products that we've designed have been based on our own proven reference designs. This approach provides rapid, risk reduced development of cellular phones, telemetry and telematics units, gaming consoles and PC cards.

Plextek has taken a leading position in Third Generation (3G) mobile communications, for example by working on base station architectures, handset solutions and test equipment design. It has developed 3G strategies for equipment vendors and network operators ahead of implementation and represented clients on technical committees.
