Cordless Communications

Plextek has been a leading adopter of all the major cordless technologies and has developed products based on 802.11a, 802.11b, Bluetooth and DECT. We have developed a wide range of cordless communications products for a variety of applications including wireless data, telephony, access gateways, computer peripherals, mobile services and telepoint systems. We have also successfully incorporated cordless connectivity into our client’s products, as with the flexible keyboard from Eleksen shown in the photograph to the right.

The cordless communications market has entered a period of sustained growth. Bluetooth is starting to make significant in roads in markets as diverse as cellular communications and telemedicine. 802.11b is the most widely adopted standard for Wireless LAN access with 802.11a and 802.11g products now also available and offering higher data rates. In the cordless telephony market, DECT (WDCT in the USA) has become established as the market leader. The uptake of all these cordless technologies has been driven by aggressive cost reduction through the availability of highly integrated chipsets.
