Low cost asset/personnel tracking and ID system is accurate to 5
m over a 10 km range
Blighter Asset Management system is ideal for industrial, security,
defence
and emergency services applications
Cambridge, 8 November 2005: Plextek has developed a low cost,
high performance tracking system for accurate asset/personnel location
and identification over a range up to 10 km. The Blighter Asset Management
system comprises of many lightweight low power tags that utilise a sensitive
GPS receiver and proprietary low power ultra narrow band telemetry technology
to transmit their ID and location to a digital receiver module or central
basestation. The system is expandable to handle an unlimited number
of tags and is accurate to better than 5 m. The ID and location of each
tag is overlaid onto a map of the area displayed on a standard PC or
laptop.
The numerous applications for the system include detection of people,
vehicles and assets in large sites such as industrial complexes, airports
and other secure areas, and battlefield and military monitoring. An
optional panic button that provides an instant alert giving unit ID,
alert code and location makes the system ideal for security and emergency
services staff location tracking. The system is designed for ease of
integration with larger integrated security systems.
The lightweight and compact tag is available for personnel use in the
form of a mobile phone sized clip-on unit. For vehicle and asset tracking,
a magnetic-mount or permanently attached tag is available. Both the
personnel and mag-mount units include rechargeable batteries that provide
over 12 hours of operation between charges. An intelligent charging
system is available that can simultaneously charge multiple tags. Units
can also be supplied for permanent installation where an external power
supply is available. When charged, the tag is always 'on' and includes
a movement sensor that allows a 'sleep' function or alert status. It
updates up to 10 times per minute and is resilient to the environment
(being IP67 and impact tested).
The basestation is a compact desktop or vehicle-mounted unit with external
connections for VHF and GPS antennas. With the basestation being at
a fixed location and having its own GPS receiver, differential GPS can
be used to give higher system accuracy. The unit has an Ethernet port
for connection into Plextek's display system or other security systems.
A graphical user interface has been developed to allow the operator
to simply control the system and view the positions of all of the tags.
