Press Release
Keeping track of baggage, toddlers and more with
Lost-It™, the latest technology from Plextek
Plextek,
the independent electronics design consultancy, has launched Lost-It
an innovative technology that will track both people and objects accurately
at short range, monitoring movements either out of, or when approaching,
a pre-defined local area.
The technology, that Plextek will licence to product
suppliers in several industry sectors, has many potential applications
and can be configured according to requirements. For instance, it can
sound its alarm to:
- detect movements of a suitcase, briefcase or laptop
- indicate a 'man overboard'
- detect people and objects in 'blind' situations
- alert parents as soon as toddlers wander outside
a pre-determined distance from them.
Using novel patented techniques, the system overcomes
the range accuracy problems that are associated with many similar products.
The technology uses standard components that offer a
low cost and low power solution for battery based applications. Units
can be paired on a one-to-one basis or alternatively one individual base
unit can handle multiple tags.
Plextek is already in talks with two major companies
to licence the tracking technology.
The system will be demonstrated at Milipol 2003,
Stand R28, Hall 2A, at Le Bourget, Paris, France from 18 - 21 November
2003 and Medica 2003, Stand 14A48-8, Hall 14, at Messe Dusseldorf, Dusseldorf,
Germany from 19 - 22 November 2003.
