Press Release
Plextek Signs Strategic Agreement with BTG for the Accelerated Development
of Electronic Design Technologies
Plextek, the independent
electronics design and consultancy company, has announced it has
been selected as preferred supplier for BTG, the global technology
commercialisation company. Together the two organisations will focus
on all areas in the development of new semiconductor and optoelectronic
technologies for use in a broad range of communications, storage,
display, and consumer electronics applications. BTG researches early-stage
concepts and negotiates the IP rights. Once the concept has been
fully validated, Plextek may then be consulted by BTG to assist with
the development of electronics design technologies. Plextek will
work closely with BTG's team of technology IP professionals as they
enhance the value and scope of BTG's portfolio of electronics patents,
many from universities in the UK and North America, as well as corporations
worldwide.
Using its substantial knowledge
and design expertise across a wide range of electronics technologies,
as well as its access to relevant companies and standards bodies,
Plextek will screen the technology pinpointed by BTG and give opinion
on whether it is worthwhile to proceed with acquisition. If BTG feels
more development work would enhance the value of the technology and
accelerate commercial adoption then Plextek will be a partner of
choice to take the technology to a further stage and, where needed,
to develop a prototype to show proof-of-concept to potential licensees.
During the last year, Plextek
has been working with BTG on a range of IP opportunities including
novel amplification, equalisation and coding techniques for mobile
communications and location systems.
Dr Graham Maile, Director
of Strategic Consulting at Plextek was responsible for developing
the initial discussions with BTG on the alliance agreement. Welcoming
the continuing co-operation, he said: "I was delighted when
BTG first contacted me to say that it had received multiple recommendations
that Plextek would be its ideal partner in the electronics technology
space. It is gratifying to know that the company's history of successful
innovation and development has been recognised by a leader in technology
intellectual property. I am looking forward to continuing to work
closely with BTG to implement its IP acquisition strategy and enhance
the value of its electronics patent portfolio."
Jay Kshatri, Vice President
of BTG's Semiconductors & Optoelectonics group said: "BTG has
selected Plextek as a preferred supplier because of its strong commercial
focus and its significant product expertise in the semiconductor industry.
These factors give it a deep understanding of the value of IP and the
commercialisation process".
