PLEXTEK WINS INDUSTRY AWARD FOR WORK ON MOBILE ENTERTAINMENT DEVICE
Independent electronics design consultancy Plextek scooped a leading
electronics industry award beating off three other finalists to win
the Design Solution of the Year category in The Electronics Industry
Design Awards last week (23 September). The award recognised Plextek’s
innovative achievements in the application of hardware/software in design
engineering for Gizmondo Europe Ltd’s mobile entertainment device.
Called The Gizmondo, the device, scheduled for launch in the UK at
the end of October, is powered by a Microsoft Windows CE.net platform,
includes a 2.8-inch TFT colour screen with a Hitachi ARM9 400Mhz processor
and incorporates a 128-bit Nvidia graphics accelerator. It provides
cutting-edge gaming, multimedia messaging, an MP3 music player, MPEG
4 movie playing capability, a digital camera and a GPRS network link
to allow wide-area network gaming. Additionally, it contains GPS for
location-based services, is equipped with Bluetooth for use in multi-player
gaming and accepts MMC card accessories.
