Plextek develops software for Analog Devices ISM transceiver chips
Software package enables customers to reduce product time-to-market
Cambridge, 8th June 2005: Plextek has developed the ADIismLink
software package for Analog Devices' ADF702x range of monolithic ISM
(Industrial Scientific and Medical) band transceivers. The software
provides a flexible framework within which customers can develop real
world applications. It also provides the capability for Analog Devices
to demonstrate and customers to evaluate the radio solution. This is
significant for application developers, saving them time and development
effort and enabling customers to get their products to market more quickly.
Analog Devices ADF702x family of ISM transceivers are aimed primarily
at low power, short-range telemetry and control applications, such as
plant monitoring, alarms, security and remote control. They can operate
at data rates from approximately 2 kbps to 115 kbps with a corresponding
impact on usable range.
The ADIismLink software saves the customer significant time and development
effort by taking care of the radio (air interface) protocol and the
application programming framework (an elementary operating system).
The protocol enables data to be reliably delivered between network endpoints
and a single base station whilst abiding by the legislative rules and
restrictions that apply to the frequency band in use. Most ISM bands
have a tight limit on the transmit duty-cycle and/or require frequency
hopping. The operating system aspects of the software are strongly geared
towards power saving. All system and user-application processes are
managed together so that microcontroller sleeping can be dynamically
optimised.
The software package (protocol and application framework) is available
now from Analog Devices as part of the development platform for the
ADF702x family of ISM transceivers. More information is available through
ADI's website at http://www.analog.com. Plextek will continue to work
with Analog Devices on custom modifications of the core functionality
or further development of the application software.
